Guides
Two phases, three months each. Free coaching, expert feedback, and the deepest mentor network in German medical entrepreneurship.

Key takeaways
Medical + health business plans diverge structurally from generic ones: the regulatory path is the central question (CE marking, MDR class, FDA strategy), the reimbursement story (GKV listing, DiGA, BfArM) decides commercial feasibility, and the clinical evidence plan is what investors actually buy. Generic Businessplan-Wettbewerbe under-weight these and reward marketing/product polish instead. AXOLOTL was built specifically to reward and improve those structurally different aspects.
Kick-off in early June (typically online). You draft a ~10-15 page Basic Business Plan covering: problem + clinical context, technology + IP situation, regulatory pathway (named MDR/IVDR class or FDA route), preliminary market + reimbursement view, team, indicative roadmap. Deadline end of August. Each Phase-1 plan gets feedback from an expert panel of medical-sector reviewers - clinicians, regulatory specialists, pharma/medtech operators.
Three months to expand the Basic Business Plan into a Detailed Business Plan (~30 pages). The feedback from Phase 1 folds in. Phase 2 adds: full regulatory strategy with named contract research organisations (CROs) for clinical trials, detailed reimbursement plan (GKV/PKV strategy with cost-of-care comparison), financial plan with R&D + clinical-trial budget reality, scale-up plan with hospital-network rollout. Submission end of November. Top three teams + special-prize winners announced at the AXOLOTL ceremony.
The cash prize is small relative to what a medical venture needs to raise - but the mentor network is unusually high-quality: senior clinicians from major German hospitals, regulatory-consulting senior partners, MedTech / pharma corporate-development people, sector-focused VCs (HTGF, Apollo Health, Wellington, Earlybird). Many AXOLOTL Phase-2 finalists raise their seed round inside 6 months of the ceremony.
